It's Back To Basics Time

Do you get tired a lot?

Having dealt with chronic fatigue for years, I understand all too well what it can be like to feel constantly tired. If you find yourself getting tired a lot, fatigued by mid-afternoon, or struggling with energy, this may help.

With a busy hectic schedule -- I am sure you have one too -- how do we deal with fatigue, burnout, and getting tired while keeping our energy high?

Here are some suggestions:

1. Double your water intake and add fresh lemon.
Drinking 500ml to 1 liter of water first thing when waking and before bed will drastically increase your hydration. This seems basic, but most people just do not drink enough water.

2. Remove blue light before waking and going to bed.
Blue light from mobile devices, TV, and computer screens can stimulate your brain in a way that makes it difficult to lower your state of consciousness and affects your sleep. Do not have your phone next to your bed.

3. Modify processed carbohydrates before lunch.
Something higher in protein and fat will keep your insulin sensitivity and blood sugar at optimal levels.

4. Do breathwork in the morning and meditate at night.
Breathwork increases oxygen flow at the start of the day. Meditating at night during non-blue-light times will improve not only quality of sleep but also stimulate the brain and energy flow.

5. Have more cold showers.
Even 30 to 60 seconds is a great way to stimulate your metabolism, refresh, and recharge.

6. Skip the coffee.
Anything that is a stimulant will lead to a crash. Have a green smoothie or tea instead.

7. Exercise -- even in the summer.
Do some form of activity to increase blood flow and oxygenation. Just move. Do not give up your workout regimen for the summer.

8. Be more conscious.
Nothing is more tiring than negative thoughts. Eat, breathe, drink, move, and think consciously. Take the time to think about what you are eating, be grateful for the water you are drinking, and be conscious of your thoughts.

9. Remove toxic people from your life.
This is the ultimate detox. Energy vampires can drain the heck out of us.

Hope these tips help. They may seem simple but prioritizing them has made a huge difference to my energy and my health. -- Sara Karman
